All Around Maui: Tree's first soccer game. September 3, 2005

The Site

The site is the fields of Kula Elementary School, in upcountry Maui.

View to the east (East Maui), a little ways farther up in Kula.

View to the northwest. You can see Kahului, Maui's largest city, and the north shore. There is an ‘Ōhi‘a tree at the left of the frame. It's the one farther from the camera.

View to the southwest. You can see the Kihei area, where I work, the south half of West Maui, and the island of Lana`i faintly in the far background.

The Game

Tree started playing soccer a little while ago. Today was the team's first game.

West Maui appears behind the field.

Spontaneous somersault in between plays.

More goofing off.

‘Ōhi‘a discovered that he loves the energy bars I eat. He will help himself, biting right through the wrapper to get to the goodness sealed inside.

Looking protective of his delicious bar.

The Playground

After the game, some of us went to a small playground on the school property.

‘Ōhi‘a loved crawling through this plastic tube.
