Most people who visit the Big Island go primarily to see the Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park, where one can see current volcanic activity, and
sometimes even flowing, glowing lava. We chose a different strategy
for this visit. In fact, we spent only about four hours at Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park (we stopped at the park on our way to the airport).
This visit was a four-day overview of the entire
island. The yellow lines mark the places we drove. Click on the map for a more
detailed (larger) map showing our route.
The driving totalled 800 miles over four days.
