This is a pretty large tree for the area.

I bet there's really good hiking beyond this sign.

Lower Puohokamoa Falls

Shown here with a very light flow, this is a large waterfall, and the road passes almost directly over it. But most drivers don't even know it exists. There's no evidence of it from the road.

This is where you park to walk to the lookout for Lower Puohokamoa Falls. This is 8/10 mile past the 10 mile marker.

Treehouse in Hana

We stayed overnight in a two-story treehouse (three stories if you count the "kitchen," which is on the ground at the base of the tree. The master bedroom (pictured here) has a king-size bed in it. There is a queen-size bed and a double bed elsewhere in the treehouse. We had hoped for a nicer treehouse for our $140/night, but this was comfortable enough.

This is the view from the main treehouse balcony, looking toward the back. The queen-size second bed is visible with a blue sheet on it. Access to the tree house is by the stairs visible at the left.

This is the kitchen. There was a propane-fired stove, and running water. The bathroom was a separate shelter about 40 feet through the woods. It had a flush toilet, a sink, and a shower with hot water.

Blue Pool

In Hawaii, it's rare for a waterfall to fall right into the ocean (or almost). This is one of those rare occurrences where there is a waterfall on one side of you and the sea on the other.

I made this vertical panorama using the free Panorama Tools and PTAssembler software packages.

Red Sand Beach

Notice the contradictory messages on this sign. This is the trail that leads to Red Sand Beach.

You can see why the sand is red here. The beach is carved out of this red cinder cone.

The ocean was really rolling today, like a big boiling pot.

Hana Ranch

Many cows and nice hills. This was taken in front of the Hana Hotel.

Wailua Falls

This is a few miles past Hana.

CRW_2270
Wailua Falls is a very popular spot for organized tour groups.
