Today we drove from home to Hana, at the far east end of Maui. We stopped at four locations for photos.

Waikamoi State Wayside

This is a nice jungle setting right at the edge of the road, and is the start of the excellent Waikamoi Ridge Trail, which we did not hike on this trip. For photos from the trail, see the drive to Hana with Alan Batie.

Nuaailua Bay, just before Ke`anae

I don't have a lot to say here. Just another perfect day on windward Maui.

Nahiku

In rainy Nahiku, just 100 feet or so from where the road ends at the ocean, there is a small idyllic waterfall and pool. When I set up my huge camera on a tripod and started photographing, one of the local guys asked me, with a worried tone, "Are you taking pictures for a magazine?"

Blue Pool

In Hawaii, it's rare for a waterfall to fall right into the ocean (or almost). This is one of those rare occurrences where there is a waterfall on one side of you and the sea on the other.

Water gently falls over this wall of rock and vegetation into a nice swimmable pool below.

It looks like somebody's hanging plant, but this is natural, about 20 feet up the cliff that the water falls over.

Tree loves to be carried in the water and have his carrier jump up and down. He becomes the physical embodiment of pure joy.

Lehoula Beach

Our final stop where we took photos with my camera was a beach south of Hana (past Hana on the drive). This beach is a good place from which to view Alau Island. The beach had rough water this day.

At this moment, I am trying (unsuccessfully) to withstand a wave as big as I am. An instant after Mike took this photo, Tree and I got knocked down and the wave rolled over us. I actually lost hold of Tree, and had to find him after the wave subsided. No one got hurt, but Tree was shaken by the experience.
