Monique and I did a beautiful but difficult hike in the Haleakala
summit area. The total distance was 11.6 miles, with an elevation gain
of 1947 feet (it would have been much more if we had climbed back up
Sliding Sands Trail). The maximum altitude was 9800 feet.
